Held

Held
words by: Christa Wells

Two months is too little.
They let him go.
They had no sudden healing.
To think that providence would
Take a child from his mother while she prays
Is appalling.

Who told us we'd be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We're asking why this happens
To us who have died to live?
It's unfair.

Chorus:
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we'd be held.

This hand is bitterness.
We want to taste it, let the hatred numb our sorrow.
The wise hand opens slowly to lilies of the valley and tomorrow.

(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we'd be held.

Bridge:
If hope is born of suffering.
If this is only the beginning.
Can we not wait for one hour watching for our Savior?

(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we'd be held.

Saw her perform this two years ago at a Women of Faith event in Dallas - I never fully understood the words until that day. You are held sweet Sarah.

Dearest Sarah,

Please know that your family in Christ is always praying for you. I am so sorry that you have to go through this pain, I could not imagine....But, the one who knew you before you were born is holding you close and he will never let go!

In His Strength,
Gena Haviland

Also saw this live at a WOF in Philly. Incredible. The same arms that hold are the ones Ellie ran into...

Sarah - I had the privilege to see and hear Natalie Grant sing this song last Saturday in Boston (at Women of Faith)! I've actually thought of you whenever I've listened to it. The words are so profound; how God does hold us when most needed. There are so many songs of pain and hope and faith; both sad and uplifting to hear. You continue to open your heart to all of us and we get to see God's glory through you and your family. God Bless. Gerry
